Synopsis

Sam Bryant is a 34 year old indie rocker who can’t seem to get a #$&* break. His rock band “The Effort” is falling apart before his very eyes, he’s broke and his girlfriend has just kicked him out of her apartment. Homeless and desperate, Sam convinces his ex-hippie aunt, Sharon, who lives in the cul-de-sac suburbs with her 14-year-old son, Oliver, to let him crash for a while.

After noticing that Sam and Oliver are hitting it off, Sharon proposes that, to earn his keep, Sam should accompany Oliver and his best friend Jake on a hiking trip out to the ocean. Sam balks initially, as the trip would interfere with a show that weekend. But after he finds out that his girlfriend, Amy, is sleeping with his guitarist, Sam agrees to take the boys, determined to show them the time of their lives.

So begins the journey into the rugged outdoors with a cocky rocker leading the way, followed by the adventurous but troubled Oliver and the witty but sensitive Jake. At first the trip is a blast; just three big kids, joking around, partying with girls at the hotel, living off potato chips and soda.

Once the men reach the ocean, however, their bickering becomes more personal. Eventually, Jake runs off into wilderness alone and when Sam and Oliver go looking for him, they become lost themselves. As night falls, it quickly becomes clear to Sam that he must  finally play the grown-up, or else the rag-tag trio may not arrive home in one piece.
